Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. James 5:17

Do you see that? Elijah was a creature just like you and me. This is a great
encouragement for anyone interested in serving his God.

How many Christians have done as Elijah did: simply prayed and believed God,
with the results as miraculous as the rain episode? Just because it has not
been chronicled by writers does not mean it has not occurred. God gave us
the narrative of Elijah to encourage us to trust him. It's not about Elijah;
it's about Elijah's God.

God's nature has a way of humbling man and his techno-pride. Just when he
puffs himself up will come an earthquake and bring man's creation to ruin.
Just when man feels his creation is worshipworthy in comes a hurricane and
levels it all. Just when man feels he is in control of all things, down
comes a tornado and guts his toys.

What does not make the New York Times may make the New Jerusalem Herald.
What does not get a spot on CNN may get the applause of GOD. Miracles will
be wrought today, somewhere in the world, the result of a heart-yielded
child of God imploring the Father for an act of His glory. The dead may be
raised, the sick may be healed, the needy may be supplied, the drought may
be broken, the devil possessed may be set free.

Elijah was a man just like us. He had no more capacity for God's Presence
than you or I have. He had no special corner on God; as a matter of fact, he
was not redeemed by Jesus Christ, as you and I are. He was just a man,
jealous for the honor of his God.

Elijah was a man just like us. Why can't we be men and women just like
Elijah?

We can be.

Why can't we pray earnestly as Elijah did, resulting in God's moving Heaven
and earth to glorify His Name?

We can.

It's the same God. He hasn't changed (Malachi 3:6, Hebrews 13:8, James 1:17). He desires to show Himself powerful and loving and forgiving to a world that is prideful, bitter, and lost.

We simply have to be people like Elijah: willing to be nothing more than
branches for the Vine, yet nothing less (John 15:1-8).
